About

Why VeloPilot?

More and more people commute by speed pedelec or e-bike. Most navigation apps still treat every bike the same: one speed, one set of roads, one route. On a speed pedelec that means wrong arrival times and routes over paths you’re not allowed to take. On an e-bike it means detours around hills you’d climb without effort.

VeloPilot fixes that by giving each type of bike its own profile.

Who makes VeloPilot?

VeloPilot is made by Ward Segers. When he bought a speed pedelec, he found out how poorly the existing navigation apps handle one. So he built the app he needed himself.

There’s no company behind it and no plan to make money from it: no ads, no subscriptions. VeloPilot exists because it’s useful, and it’s shared in case it’s useful to you too.

A fork of OsmAnd

VeloPilot is built on OsmAnd, the mature open source navigation app with offline maps from OpenStreetMap. We’re grateful to the OsmAnd developers and the OpenStreetMap community; without their work VeloPilot wouldn’t exist.

VeloPilot is an independent project and isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by OsmAnd.

Free software

VeloPilot is released under the GNU General Public License, version 3, the same license as OsmAnd. You’re free to use, study, share and improve it.
